FR Americas Adds Mid-Ohio to 2021 Schedule; Cancels Trip to Canada

As a result of the ongoing pandemic and its impact on international travel, the Formula Regional Americas Championship Powered by Honda will stay stateside once again for 2021, canceling its street course debut at Trois-Rivières in Quebec, Canada, for the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R) August 13-15.

Instead, the triple-header will now be rescheduled for one of SpeedTour’s biggest weekends- the Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio. FR Americas will join Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda, the Trans Am Series and the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course June 25-27. (tickets)

The Mid-Ohio weekend will offer more track time for the drivers, with a built in test day prior to the official event hosted on the technical circuit that they will face during the weekend. In effort to support the FIA in its driver education efforts, the FR Americas drivers will also participate in a Motorsport Business Summit which will include a sponsorship development presentation from Parella Motorsports Holdings President, and new commercial owner of the series, Tony Parella.

“The decision to cancel the trip to Canada this season for FR Americas was not made lightly,” said Parella. “The ongoing pandemic and the changing border guidelines have made planning very difficult for our staff and teams. After working with local government officials, we could not guarantee that all of our teams and drivers would be able to travel without quarantine mandates since we have such a diverse international group.

“We are excited to expand the lineup for the fans at Mid-Ohio,” Parella continued. “The addition of FR Americas to the program gives fans even more racing action for the weekend. I am also looking forward to talking to the drivers about developing a business around their motorsport career, because it’s just as important on what they do outside the race car as when they are in it.”
