Success at most recent rounds has increased team’s expectations
MUNDELEIN, IL (July 29, 2020) – After a strong overall outing at VIRginia International Raceway earlier this month, which included the team’s second podium in the Formula Regional Americas Championship Powered by Honda program, Newman Wachs Racing will head south once again this coming weekend to Birmingham, Alabama and Barber Motorsports Park for the series’ third weekend. The Brian Halahan-led squad will once again put Jordan Missig and Victor Franzoni on-track to continue their chase for race wins and the series championship. Missig is coming off his first podium finish of the season, taking third in Race 1 at VIR. The Barber facility is a jewel of American motorsports and the 2.38-mile, 16-turn track will surely challenge the drivers all weekend long. Franzoni has significant experience at the track, having competed there successfully through his years in the Road to Indy program, and that should provide him with the fuel he needs to breakthrough for his first series win.
“I’m hoping both drivers will be running in the top-five every session throughout the weekend,” Halahan commented. “One thing I’ve learned over the last few race weekends is how tough the competition is in this series, and that there are a lot of very talented drivers, so if we go through the weekend mistake-free, I believe both guys will be on the podium on multiple occasions.”
The drivers will participate in a pair of practice sessions on Friday before heading into qualifying early on Saturday morning. The first races of the tripleheader event will be run on Saturday afternoon (12:55 pm) while the second and third races will run on Sunday (8:00 am / 12:55 pm).
