Formula Race Promotions Star Dario Cangialosi Confirms FR Americas Ride

Dario Cangialosi sets eyes on 2020 FR Americas Championship title with Global Racing Group

The reigning Formula Race Promotions Formula Atlantic Championship title holder Dario Cangialosi secured the next step in his formula career, inking a full season deal in Formula Americas Regional Championship Powered by Honda with Global Racing Group.

Cangialosi is the second pilot to confirm with the championship team for the 2020 FR Americas season. The New Jersey-based driver joins Swedish rookie Linus Lundqvist on the growing GRG roster.

“Over the past few years Dario has demonstrated an relentless level of effort in reaching his goals and the results have shown it”, said Christian Pedersen, President & CEO for Global Racing Group. “We are always looking to work with great talent that also wants to put in the effort for continuous improvement and Dario falls squarely into that category. I have no doubt that Dario’s talent and great work ethic will bring him far and we can’t wait to help him on that journey. If the FR Americas iRacing Invitational Championship is an indicator of results this year, Dario couldn’t have gotten off to a better start… and it’ll continue on track with podiums and loads of points”.

Cangialosi arrives to FR Americas with a robust racing resume, winning consecutive championships in the FRP Championships in F1600 and Formula Atlantic after receiving the Skip Barber Karts to Cars Scholarship in 2017. In 2019, Cangialosi went on to win the Vice Championship in the Sports Car Club of America National Championship Runoffs at Virginia International Raceway.

This season, the newest FR Americas rookie has his eyes set on claiming another title, winning the biggest prize in his open-wheel career, a full season scholarship with a Honda-supported Indy Lights team from Honda Performance Development.

“We were kind of late in making a decision for the season, but when Honda announced the Indy Lights scholarship that was the tipping point, we had to make the move into FR Americas,” said Cangialosi. “The value of the series to run at this level is unmatched and after speaking with Christian (Pedersen) on the phone, I knew then Global was the team that I wanted to join.

“I am ready to be back in a race car,” Cangialosi continued. “I look forward to running my first street course at Trois-Rivières and taking on the challenges of a new car.”

While COVID-19 has restricted travel and real-life testing, Cangialosi has found new ways to size up his competition from the comfort of his home, using the FR Americas iRacing Invitational Championship as a platform to practice, keep his skills sharp and compete against other FR Americas drivers. Cangialosi currently leads the simulation championship.

“The FR Americas iRacing championship has been really fun so far," said Cangialosi. "It’s a great way to stay sharp during this extended off-season and it helps me keep my reflexes sharp.“

In effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus, SCCA Pro Racing pushed back the FR Americas season opener from April to June 5-7 at Circuit of The Americas.
